College Football Playoff Match-ups Revealed

Here is Patrick Higgins, our college football enthusiast telling us his opinion on the college football playoff match-ups.

Article by Patrick Higgins.

Hello everyone, the WAPJ Sports Blog is back, and ready to post some great articles. This week I want to give my insight on wether the final College Football Playoff top four teams were correct. All I want to say is the playoff committee GOT IT RIGHT. The final four in college football this year were 1. Clemson, 2. Alabama, 3. Michigan State, and 4. Oklahoma. The final rankings were right where they are supposed to be in my opinion.

Clemson should be ranked first overall because they have been the best team in college football all season, and are still undefeated after winning the ACC Championship against North Carolina. Alabama finishes second in the playoff rankings, after winning their second consecutive SEC Championship. The Tide have also looked very dominant on the defensive side of the ball, and Derrick Henry is having a possible Heisman Trophy winning season. Michigan State is ranked third because of their resume over the entire season. They were able to defeat Oregon, who was ranked seventh at the time and have been the hottest offense in the country, Ohio State and Michigan on the road, and defeated undefeated Iowa in the Big Ten championship game. I can make an argument that Michigan State's resume was better than Alabama's   but they are going to play each other anyway, so their rankings don't really matter. Though Michigan State's resume is better than Alabama's, but we see again that playing in the SEC really helps your ranking.... though it shouldn't in my opinion. Oklahoma then rounds out the top four rankings at fourth, and have been very impressive with that offense of late. The only reason they are fourth, is because Michigan State's resume had more wins over ranked teams, which is a large component of rankings according to the playoff committee.

So here are the matches, Clemson will play Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, and Alabama will play Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl. Both of these games will be played on New Years Eve. It will be the matchup of two explosive offenses with Clemson and Oklahoma, and a classic pro style matchup of running the ball effectively, with Alabama and Michigan State. These games are going to be AWESOME, (even though Oregon isn't going to be in playoff.... GO DUCKS!)

The college football playoff committee did it again, and ranked the teams appropriately, so in the second year of the playoff we are still seeing that this system is SO MUCH BETTER than the BCS system of old.
